Fuse Glass navigates the space between functional design and artisanal, aesthetic-driven practice. Each wine glass is created by fusing hand-blown glass with an individually thrown Jingdezhen porcelain base. On a broader level, the series focuses on the impact of place on processes of creation and consumption. Each glass was designed with the wine of South Australia's renowned Barossa Valley in mind, yet the consumption of the wine is also grounded—both literally and figuratively—in the intensely modern exchange of skilled craftsmanship: the porcelain and throwing processes of Jingdezhen, China. By fusing the aesthetics of consumption with the media of creation, Fuse Glass reflects on the globalised experience of my own practice as a ceramicist.
